Tengnoupal indefinite bandh called off after talks with DIG, AR
IMPHAL, February 6: The seven-day long indefinite bandh in Tengnoupal has finally been called off after a negotiation between the JAC and DIG, 26 Sector in the evening, claimed the BJP Manipur Pradesh taking credit and attributing the successful negotiation to its "goodwill mission".
Today at around 4 pm, the JAC and a team led by the DIG, 26 Sector Assam Rifles held the negotiation that continued till 5 pm. The JAC agreed to call off the bandh after DIG Rajeev Kumar assured to fulfil the demands of the JAC.
The volunteers of the JAC said the prolonged indefinite bandh imposed since January 29 till date has been called off from 6pm after the negotiations. Adding that the DIG told the people of Tengnoupal that the CO of the 24 Assam Rifles had no right to impose restrictions on NH-102 during the nights, they also stated that the DIG informed of installing X-ray machines at Tengnoupal to scan moving vehicles on this route.
The BJP Manipur Pradesh leaders led by its president Thounaojam Chaoba toured and studied the prevailing condition in Tengnoupal as a part of its "goodwill mission" to bring an end to the seven days long bandh along the National Highway-102. Chaoba appealed the people of Tengnoupal who imposed the indefinite bandh against the atrocities of 24 AR to put an end to the bandh in public interest.
Interacting with the agitators for bringing a permanent solution, the BJP president urged them to suspend the bandh for some days to mitigate the inconveniences to the people. He asked the people to submit their opinions which he claimed that he would relay to the Central leaders.
He said he would go to Delhi on February 12 and apprise the situation and grievances faced by the people of Tengnoupal, which has also affected the international trade with the neighbouring country, Myanmar.
Speaking to the people of the area, Chaoba said the road is an important national highway which is a lifeline for many people including business persons of the state. The bandh has affected the whole state, not only the people of Tenoupal, he would therefore mount pressure on the Central government for bringing a permanent solution
during his visit to Delhi, he added.
He said transferring the CO of the AR post at Tengnoupal will not be the only solution. BJP general secretary M Asnikumar said the bandh in Tenoupal has affected the people of Manipur, mainly the small business persons along the NH-102, and has also given a negative impression to the people of Myanmar. The main cause of the bandh was the unjust restriction of a pregnant women and a hypertensive person who were compelled to walk by foot on the midnight of January 29, he said.
Unfortunately, the state government hasn't looked into the matter and this is a Himalayan blunder, he added.
He further stated that the route is becoming very important for the country and the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to visit Moreh on February 10 to inspect the trade and commerce related developmental projects taken up in Moreh.
The IFP had earlier reported on February 5 that Tengnoupal villagers have decided to lift the indefinite bandh imposed along the Imphal-Moreh highway following a meeting with the State government, which was based on a source from among the agitators. However, the report turned out to be erroneous due to a miscommunication with the source.
