Zillai platinum jubilee celebration concludes at Kangvai
LAMKA, December 11: The valedictory function of the Zillai, Vaiphei Students’ Association platinum jubilee celebration was observed today at Kangvai, Churachandpur District with a host of dignitaries of the State.
The function was graced by MP of Outer parliamentary Constituency, Thangso Baite; deputy Chief Minister, Gaikhangam; Francis Ngajokpa, minister of RD & PR and Economics & Statistics department and MLA, T Manga Vaiphei of Henglep A/C, who is also the chairman of MTDC.
Speaking during the function, T Baite expressed his happiness that Zillai had produced a number of leaders. “This is not due to our abilities alone but also by blessing of the God, as one of the pioneers in Christianity among the tribal of Manipur, and we should be able to maintain the momentum”, he said.
He emphasised that the Vaiphei community also needs to produce more citizens as artist, philanthropist and more educated people who can contribute in the development of the society, before adding that one should uphold the values of Christianity, which is all about love, truth and non-violence.
Deputy CM, Gaikhangam, speaking during the function maintained that he was impressed by the way the Vaiphei Students’ Association has organised themselves over the years. He added that learning is a never ending process and encouraged the students gathered on the occasion to be ever hungry for more knowledge.
He said, at the same time one must maintain humility of his or her learning. One should strive to set benchmark with high moral integrity, he continued, and added that one should learn to control oneself before controlling others.
He also pointed out that as the Zillai has celebrated 75 years of existence and service, the students should make a strong commitment that they will do their best in the future as well.
Francis Ngajokpa who also spoke during the function said that he was envious of the Vaiphei community which has produced many top officials in the State. He added that the Maram community, which he belong to, is lagging behind from other communities. He also appreciated Zillai for their rootedness in their culture, which was evident from the way the students conducted the celebration.
He also pointed out that Zillai should also try to reach out to other communities, and guide them, so that diverse communities in the State move forward to development jointly.
During the observation, an educational trust was also instituted, especially to help the UPSC and MPSC aspirants. In this regard, Genneihkhup, EM of ADCC contributed Rs 50 thousand as its fund.
Meritorious students were also felicitated during the function.
