3 UGs, 2 vehicle lifters arrested
Imphal, June 18: A combined team of Imphal West and Thoubal District Police commandos along with women police personnel arrested two active members of PREPAK namely Arambam Geetabali alias Thoi alias Radha Devi, 32, daughter of (L) A Ibotombi Singh of Kangabam Leikai; and Ningthoujam (n) Wangkhem (o) Chaoba alias Asharani Devi, 29, wife of W Shyamkanhai of Naransena Maning Leikai in front of G.M Hall on Monday, said PRO Police statement.
It said that investigations revealed that they were involved in the transportation of arms and ammunition from one place to another and also were involved in extortion of money from the general public. Two mobile phones were seized from their possession.
A case has been registered at City Police Station against them and investigations are going on, it said.
Meanwhile, a commando unit of the Thoubal District Police acting on information about the movements of vehicle lifters in the general area of Lilong Bazar, conducted verification of suspicious persons at the Lilong Bazaar on Tuesday. During the verification, Md. Jiyaur Rahman, 28, son of Md Islammudin of Lilong Turel Ahanbi was arrested.
Investigations revealed that he was involved in the snatching and lifting of vehicles and then selling it to the public. He was the leader of the group involved in buying and selling of the stolen vehicles and on his disclosure the following stolen vehicles were recovered from his custody, it said.
The recovered vehicles are Alto Car bearing registration No. Nl01C/5871, which stands in the name of Himanshu Bora son of Partam Bora of Hing School, Kohima, Nagaland, Toyata Mark-II black in colour, Model- Y-lX90- ATPET- registered in the name of Md Fariqu Khan of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai, Accent (Maruti) car bearing registration no. MN04A/3678, light green in colour, registered in the name of Islauddin son of Haji Feija Ahmed of Lilong Turel Ahanbi. A case has been registered against him at Lilong Police Station and investigations are going on, it said.
Later acting on an information that some stolen vehicles were stored in the house of one Md. Kayamuddin, son of (L) Md. Amubi of Lilong Yangbi Leikai Leihaokhong, the Thoubal District police commando unit conducted a search operation and recovered several vehicles.
The recovered vehicles are Honda Activa, dark grey in colour, bearing registration No. MN01D/3496, Honda Activa, maroon in colour, bearing registration No MN01R/9061, Alto - LXI car, silver in colour, bearing registration No MN04/6754 registered in the name of Soibam Somorjit, son of (L) Moirangthou of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, it said.
A case has been registered against him at Lilong Police Station and investigations are going on.
Further according to the statement, the Imphal West District Police commandos arrested Toijam Sheetal alias Inao Singh,41, son of T Punshi Singh of Kiyamgei Maning Leikai, a cadre of PLA/RPF from Keishamthong Bazaar area.
Investigation revealed that he was involved in sending demand letters and extortion of money from the general public. Two mobile phones and an Access 125 scooter bearing Registration Number MN01Z/ 8556 were seized from his possession, it said.
A case has been registered against him at Imphal Police Station and investigations are going on.
