The Rising People’s Party (RPP), a political party based in Nagaland, has demanded a clarification from the Nagaland government with regard to “making Hindi compulsory” issue.
“The statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah that all the eight North Eastern states have agreed to make Hindi compulsory up to class X is a very serious issue which the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) coalition in (Nagaland government) must clarify,” RPP demanded on Saturday.
The RPP said it stands for unity in diversity and any attempt to impose Hindi in the state/country is "crass chauvinism and majoritarianism" at play, and the RPP asserted that it will oppose such policies tooth and nail.
The RPP also said that state educational policy falls under the prerogative of the state governments and any diktats by the Central government on the issue is violative of the federal structure of the country and thus unacceptable.
The RPP then said, “However, there is a lingering suspicion that our state politicians may have given their personal assurance/s to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to make Hindi compulsory up to class X following which he must have made the statement”.
The Nagaland based party also said that personal nod given by “our state politicians cannot be ruled out because two years back the state government banned sale of dog meat on the ‘advisory note’ of a Central leader seated in Delhi having no respect for our Naga sentiments or our culture”.
It then said that the proverbial "sell-your-mother" attitude of the state politicians eager to please Delhi is not only utterly disgusting but shameless too.
According to the RPP, unlike the south of India where politicians fiercely guard their regional and linguistic identity, it is "possible that Union Home Minister Amit Shah indeed extracted the nod from our politicians to go ahead with his controversial statement”.
Therefore, RPP demanded that the chief minister, the deputy chief minister, the state BJP president and the advisor for School Education department give a clarification “immediately”.
