President Droupadi Murmu was accorded guard of honour on her maiden visit to Nagaland. The President was received by Nagaland Governor Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, chief secretary J Alam and senior state officials on her arrival at Assam Rifles helipad, Kohima.
"Governor of Nagaland, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister, Shri Neiphiu Rio received President Droupadi Murmu on her arrival at Kohima. The President was accorded a guard of honour on her first visit to Nagaland," the Rashtrapati Bhavan tweeted.
Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio welcomed the President to the "Land Of Festivals".
"An honour to welcome Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the Honourable President of India. We are delighted to welcome you to Nagaland, the #LandOfFestivals. I wish you a pleasant stay and a memorable experience," the chief minister tweeted.
The President will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various projects related to education and infrastructure in Nagaland.
The President's Secretariat said in a statement that the President will pay her respects at the Kohima War Cemetery and visit Kigwema village where she will interact with the Village Council Members and the members of self-help groups (SHGs) on Thursday.
