NSF condemns Mukhroh village firing

The apex Naga student body strongly condemned the indiscriminate firing" which took place along the Meghalaya – Assam border on November 22 morning leading to the loss of six precious lives.

The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Thursday that it was deeply disturbed by the "indiscriminate firing" which took place along the Meghalaya – Assam border in West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya and West Karbi Anglong district of Assam on November 22 morning leading to the loss of six precious lives.

The apex Naga student body strongly condemned the incident and termed it as "barbaric and anti-societal act" which had outraged the sentiments of the entire Northeast region and beyond. It also said that while the general populace is collectively striving towards lasting peace and stability, to bring about a life of dignity and the shared purpose of peaceful coexistence and respectful relationships, "such inhumane and diabolical act negates the very aspiration of the masses and ought to be out rightly condemned by all right thinking citizens".

The NSF then appealed for peace and unity in the region "as we continue to press forward in strengthened cooperation while also sparing no efforts to uproot those elements and practices which are against the social and economic progress of our people".

The NSF added, "We must respect each other's history and basic human rights, accept each other's differences and value the common interests so as to establish a secure future where the entire region will thrive in harmony".

The NSF also appealed to the authority concerned that due process of law is followed through an impartial probe to settle the issue amicably at the earliest possible time.

The Naga student body then said that it "stand in solidarity and furthermore, extend our deepest and profound sympathy to the bereaved family members of the innocent victims". The Federation also wished speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.
