Nagaland police arrest cyber crime accused Pankaj Gupta in Haryana

The police claimed that the accused had made serious allegations without basis and authentication, along with conspiracy theories which are a threat to Public Peace and Order.

The Nagaland Police on Tuesday arrested the main accused in Cyber Crime PS Case, who has been on the run for last several days from Kurukshetra in Haryana, by a team of Haryana police and Nagaland Police.

SP Crime and Nagaland Police PRO Manojkumar A, in a statement, informed that the arrest of the accused, Pankaj Gupta, was effected based on the non-bailable warrant of arrest issued by Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kohima.

The Cyber Crime PS of Nagaland Police stated that it had taken cognizance of various social media trolls uploaded on various platforms by the accused, which were inflammatory, abusive, divisive and prejudicial to the maintenance of social peace and harmony attracting the provisions of IPC, which are cognisable and non-bailable.

The police claimed that the accused had made serious allegations without basis and authentication, along with conspiracy theories which are a threat to Public Peace and Order.

It is stated that the accused is being processed for transit remand and shall be produced before the honourable court, Kohima. It was further added that the police shall be investigating into the involvement of other co-conspirators on various Social Media Platforms, if any in furtherance of this criminal act.

Nagaland Police, through the PRO has also appealed to the citizens of Nagaland to be very cautious and discreet in soliciting comments in social media without verifying facts.

“The freedom of speech in a democracy also comes with reasonable legal restrictions, and asked the citizens to be mindful of it,” it added.

Nagaland Police has also stated that any violation of law, shall be strongly dealt with as per the provisions of law and sought the co-operation of one and all to maintain peace and harmony in these difficult times for our state.
