Nagaland government sets up SIT to probe into Mon firing

The Nagaland government on Sunday formed a five-member SIT to probe into the Mon firing incident that killed 14 Naga villagers.

The Nagaland government has set up a five-member Special Investigating Team (SIT) to conduct an investigation into the December 4 Mon firing incident that claimed the lives of 13 Naga civilians and left several others injured.

In an order issued by the state home department stated that the Saturday incident took place in an area between Tiru and Oting village involving security forces in which 13 civilians were killed and many others were injured.

The order stated that in this regard, an FIR under Sections 302, 307 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Tizit police station and the investigation taken up by the Mon district police.

“In order to facilitate free and fair investigation of the case and looking at the complexity of the case, which may involve investigation in multiple jurisdictions beyond the district, it has been decided to transfer the investigation of the matter to the State Crime Police Station (SCPS). The probe will be taken up by the Special Investigation Team (SIT)," the order added.

The SIT members include Limasunup Jamir, IPG(R), CIO; Roopa M, DIG (CID), Monoj Kumar, SP (Crime); Kilang Walling, SP and Relo Aye, Deputy Commandent, 15 NAP IR.

The investigation will be conducted under the overall supervision of Sandep M Tamgadge, ADGP, Law and Order, the order signed by the state chief secretary J Alam stated.

The SIT will immediately take over the case and collect evidence from the crime site, the order mentioned, adding that the investigation should be completed within one month from the date of registration.
