Global Naga Forum condoles death of Patkai Christian College co-founder Margaret Shishak

Margaret Shishak passed away on Friday at the Christian Institute Of Health Sciences And Research (CIHSR) Dimapur after a prolonged illness, aged 80.

The Global Naga Forum (GNF) on Saturday extended its condolences over the demise of Patkai Christian College co-founder Margaret Anne Shishak.

Margaret Shishak passed away on Friday at the Christian Institute Of Health Sciences And Research (CIHSR) Dimapur after a prolonged illness, aged 80.

The GNF said in its condolence message that Margaret Shishak’s life and work for the Naga people will never be forgotten.

"Margaret Shishak’s life and work for the Naga people will never be forgotten. Naga churches in particular will continue to enjoy the fruits of her labour for ages to come. Her legacy will live on. As we mourn the loss of her life, the Global Naga Forum (GNF) also takes this occasion to celebrate her life and expresses our gratitude to her family. We thank the Almighty God for the gift of her life to the Naga people," the GNF stated.

"With her gift of music laden with a deep sense of mission, Margaret Shishak  dedicated her entire life to the Naga young people’s music education, especially Church Music, for the glory of God. She was never on the payroll of the college, yet never retired from teaching. Her missionary zeal kept her going and she continued to teach as long as her health permitted. As a mother, and together with her husband, she raised three sons who all grew up to be successful in their lives; one of them returned to Patkai to carry on the legacy and dream of his parents," the GNF stated in its message.

"On behalf of the Nagas around the globe, the GNF expresses our deep condolences and prayers to her family, her relatives, and well wishers in the USA and the Patkai College community at large. May she rest in eternal peace and joy," the GNF added.

Margaret Shishak came to Nagaland in 1973 and founded the Patkai Christian College together with her husband Rev Tuisem Shishak at Chiimoukedima, Nagaland in 1974.Patkai Christian College is the first college in the Northeast India to be recognised as an autonomous college and is currently recognised by UGC as a “College with Potential for Excellence''.
