Sangai Festival anthem Yarou Sangai (The Lost Kingdom) was launched on Monday by state Health Minister Sapam Ranjan in the presence of Social Welfare Minister H Dingo; CAFPD Minister L Susindro; Wangkhei AC MLA, Th Arun; MANIDCO chairman K Robindro; Babina Healthcare chairman, Thangjam Dhabali and environmentalist Khangembam Samungou.

Environmentalist Kh Samungou has apprehension of turning the floating park ‘Keibul Lamjao National Park’ into a floating museum of Sangai. Once upon a time, Sangai (deer) was found everywhere in the state but now it has become an endangered species and stays at Keibul Lamjao only.

“Sangai is now found only at Keibul Lamjao after captive,” said Samungou. Sangai is unique and priceless that it is found only in Keibul Lamjao national park, which is the only floating wildlife sanctuary in the world.

"Don’t think that Sangai are staying at Keibul Lamjao freely and happily. In that 40 square kilometer area of the floating park, 15 square km are Phumdi in which they are kept, remaining are water," said Samungou.

Environmentalists said at present Sangai are facing three important problems. One is hunting, second is lost of Phumdi due to the Loktak project and third is the genetic issue of keeping a family together for 200 to 300 years in a place.
