Hao Cultural Academy set up for preservation and promotion of folk songs, dances

The Hao Cultural Academy aims to impart folk songs and dances and to preserve and revive the rich culture of the Tangkhul Naga community.

Hao Cultural Academy has been set up in Ukhrul district and inaugurated on Saturday in the effort to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Tangkhul Naga community of the district.

The academy’s main aim is to impart folk songs and dances and to preserve and revive the rich culture of the community.

IGP IK Muivah, who inaugurated the academy in the presence of Padma Shri Guru Rewben Mashangva, urged the younger generations to preserve the rich cultural traditions passed down by their forefather.

“Youth must treasure and preserve its culture and identity. “Learning folk song, folk dance and indigenous instruments must be learned and revived,” he said.

Emphasising that Tangkhul community has around 20 indigenous instruments, IGP Muivah urged youths to preserve and revive the rich cultural ethos of the community. He also urged to introduce of cultural studies as a subject in the school curriculum.

“Let us preserve the old folk song by recording it because in it we would find valuable contents about the lives of our forefathers what are called archaic words. There is no dearth of avenues with the government in the field of culture so let us make the best use of it and promote our culture”, he added.

The academy is set up by the URA charitable trust established in 2013 by like-minded youths with the sole aim to impart quality education.
