The 60th Foundation Day of Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev (SSBD) Music College, Imphal was celebrated at the auditorium of the college located at Palace Compound on Friday.
Addressing the function as chief guest, Commissioner of Art and Culture, M Joy Singh said that though SSBD Music College is the only music college in Manipur and almost completed 60 years, the institute still lacks many basic amenities. There is a need to enhance its facilities so that a good number of artists can be groomed, he suggested.
Stating that Manipur is known for its rich cultural heritage in the world, the Commissioner said that the role of SSBD Music College is very much significant in producing well qualified artists who can bring laurels at national and international level in the field of music.
As a part of the function, classical musical concert consisting of flute performance by H Lalhari Sharma, table accompanist by K Shanta Singh, table performance by E Herochand Singh, Nagma on Harmonium by Kh Noren Singh, Khayal Performance by L Devendrajit Sharma, Tabla Accompanist by B Devkumar Sharma and Harmonium Accompanist by Kh Noren Singh.
Other dignitaries who attended the function were Director of the Department of Art and Culture, L Kishworjit Singh and retired, head of department (Violin), SSBD Music College, Imphal, M Kumar Singh as president and guest of honour respectively.
