Indian film director, screenwriter and actor K Vishwanath passed away at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Thursday. He was 92.
One of the legendary filmmakers of Telegu cinema, Vishwanath was a recipient of Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Padma Shri, five National Film Awards, seven state Nandi Awards, 10 Filmfare awards South and one Filmfare Award in Hindi among others.
He is survived by his wife and four children.
As his last rites was performed on Friday, several, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and state leaders condoled his death and paid tributes to the celebrated filmmaker.
“Saddened by the passing away of Shri K Viswanath Garu. He was a stalwart of the cinema world, distinguishing himself as a creative and multifaceted director. His films covered various genres and enthralled audiences for decades. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” the prime minister tweeted.
