The Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) on Wednesday announced the commencement of five-day ‘Indian Panorama Film Festival Manipur with retrospective of Aribam Syam Sharma’ at the Palace Auditorium of MSFDS, Palace Gate, Imphal from Saturday.
A statement by MSFDS mentioned that the film festival, held as a part of the year-long Golden Jubilee Celebration of Manipur Cinema, is being organised in collaboration with the Directorate of Film Festival, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Special feature of the festival includes ‘a rare retrospective of Aribam Syam Sharma, the master filmmaker of Manipur,’ followed by the celluloid screening, of some of his masterpiece such as Imagee Ningthem (1981), Olangthagee Wangmadasu (1979), Sanabi (1995) and Ishanou (1990), along with his critically acclaimed documentaries and short films, from 9 am till 9:30 pm, it added.
Inviting film enthusiasts to attend the free entry festival, the statement mentioned that the festival will also include two master classes on screenplay and film direction, by two Indian filmmakers C Umamaheswara Rao and Priya Krishnaswamy, respectively.
Asserting that each year, the Directorate of Film Festival receives hundreds of entries but only a few films get selected in the Indian Panorama section, it further stated that the film festival will also showcase some of the finest films of Indian cinema, curated from the Indian Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), for the year 2020 and 2021.
