The Non-Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on Monday began their agitation over their demands of revocation of suspension orders against its members, the reinstatement of the president of the NGEA, Senora Johny Arengh as well as the implementation of pay in the 5th Pay commission of Meghalaya.

Earlier on September 9, the NGEA made the demands mentioned earlier, threatening to go on another strike if the same was not met. The group once again submitted their demands to the CEM of GHADC, reiterating their intention of agitation over their demands.

They had provided an ultimatum of 7 days for the GHADC authorities to meet their demands, failing which the employees had threatened a strike.

Earlier Arengh was terminated from service on Aug 6, while 7 other executive members of the NGEA, Brithen M. Sangma (Secretary), Flamingbirth B Marak (Joint-Secretary), Balseng M. Sangma (Adviser), Augustbel R Marak (Adviser) Henyverth Marak (Member) Mento Sangma (Member) and Francis R. Marak (Member) were suspended on the same day.

The termination and suspension were initiated after the GHADC leadership, led by its principal secretary, rejected their explanation over a meeting held by the NGEA where COVID protocols were not maintained.
The agitation today saw a huge number of employees coming together to show the protest of their demands not being met.

The development comes in the wake of the GHADC authorities, including the CEM, Deputy CEM and Chairman meeting the CM, Conrad Sangma over the payment of 4 months of pending salaries.
