Night curfew extended in West Garo Hills

The night curfew is part of the containment measure to check the spread of Covid-19 in the district.

Night curfew which was in effect has been extended throughout West Jaintia Hills district.

This is as per an order issued by the District Magistrate, Garod Dykes on Monday which stated that the night curfew which is in effect from 9 pm to 5 am every day has been extended from today until further orders.

The night curfew is part of the measures to contain and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the district but will not apply to security forces, medical teams on duty, wholesale and retail pharmacies, police and armed forces, fire & emergency service, MeECL, NEEPCO & Power Grid, Food and Civil Supply department, FCI, Public Works department (PWD), Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, Jowai Municipal Board, postal service, telecom, communications & IT services, press, print & electronic media and petrol pumps. Online food delivery which has also been exempted will be able to deliver food till 10 pm.

Essential services including health services, hospitals, clinics, dispensaries, veterinary clinic and labs, authorized workshops and designated spare parts dealerships of the Health and Family Welfare department, government officials on duty, officers and staff of Corona Care Centres, Information and Public Relations Department, National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) have also been exempted.

The order is also not applicable to the movement of vehicles carrying essential goods, security forces, medical equipment and shops for repair of trucks on highways are also exempted. However, drivers and attendants of the vehicles shall be subject to medical screening as per laid down protocols.
