The Meghalaya People's Human Rights Council (MPHRC) on Wednesday called for an immediate free and fair investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the firing incident at Mukhroh village in West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya that left six people dead on November 22, 2022. Those killed included five from Meghalaya and two others were seriously injured.

“We strongly denounce this worrying rise and repeated gross abuses of human rights committed by these law enforcement officials and violating the right to life of those innocent souls who had to pay the price with their precious lives at the highhandedness and incompetent police force of the Assam Government,” MPHRC chairman Dino DG Dympep said.
