A delegation of 40 Meghalaya youth accompanied by five staff of North East Hills University (NEHU) returned to Shillong from an intercultural exchange tour from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
A release by NEHU stated that the youths were bid adieu by the team of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow and an IRTC team from Benaras at the Guwahati Railway Station.
The intercultural exchange programme was the initiative of the ministry of education, government of India under the aegis of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat mission’s Yuva Sangam, it informed. The Meghalaya youths were also accompanied by ministry official observer Surinder Naik, it continued.
NEHU public relations officer Davidson Pyngrope stated that the intercultural exchange provided a platform for the students to learn about the different cultures of Uttar Pradesh as well as exposure to the institutes of higher education in Uttar Pradesh including various CSIR labs like the Central Institute for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants and the century-old Benaras Hindu University, it maintained.
It mentioned that during the tour, the students visited many historical and educational sites including the Imambara, the Rumi Gate, the Raj Bhawan of Uttar Pradesh, the Clock tower, the Kukrail reserve forest, CSIR-CIMAP lab and the holy cities of Ayodhya and Benaras (Kashi) etc.
