Meghalaya Assembly Elections 2023: No woman candidate in United Democratic Party

Not a single woman candidate has applied for a ticket of the United Democratic Party (UDP) for the upcoming Meghalaya assembly elections 2023.

Expressing concern in this regard, UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh said that he was expecting women candidates to come forward and apply for party tickets.

“However, so far we don’t have any woman candidate (apply for party ticket),” he said.

Stating that the party will have to look into this aspect before announcing the second list of candidates, Lyngdoh said, “I want women to come forward and apply for the party.”

Earlier today, while announcing the first list of 32 candidates, the UDP chief also paid tribute to the only woman freedom fighter of the state ‘Ka Phan Nonglait’.
