Meghalaya is celebrating Jackfruit Mela in Tura under the state's Mission Jackfruit, which aims at exploring potential of jackfruit through creation of value chain for jackfruit products and helping entrepreneurs set up small scale and nano enterprises.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the event on Tuesday and highlighted the need to tap into the state's jackfruit yield, saying the state produced jackfruit worth over Rs 400 crore this time. He made mentioned of it in a series of tweets.
"Happy to inaugurate the Jackfruit Mela in Tura under the state’s Mission Jackfruit. The Mission is aimed at exploring the potential of jackfruit through creation of value chain for jackfruit products & helping entrepreneurs set up small scale & nano enterprises.
"Over 400 Crore worth jackfruit is produced in Meghalaya & with the demand for jackfruit products globally, we realised that we must tap into the opportunity."
The chief minister also stated that through the Jackfruit Mission and other missions, the state is exploring new opportunites and extending help to farmers to double their income.
"hrough Jackfruit Mission, FOCUS, PRIME & other missions we are exploring many opportunities & extending the help required for our farmers to double their incomes & help our entrepreneurs expand their horizons," Sangma said in another Twitter post.
