The Zeme Students' Organisation Manipur (ZSOM) on Friday condemned the proposed joint survey notification for Kaiphundai Reserve Forest extension.
The subdivisional officer Tousem in pursuance of the deputy commissioner Tamenglong had issued a notification for the joint survey of Kaiphundai Reserve Forest extension headed by divisional officer of Jiribam and the subdivisional office staff of Tousem.
In a statement, ZSOM said that Kaiphundai village being located under the Tousem subdivision, the consultation of the local stakeholders and the civil societies of the area should be taken into confidence as a prerequisite for any settlement.
ZSOM president Haizerangbe Paul stated that the notification for a joint survey is uncalled for and is not a healthy sign of any democratic institutions. He requested the Government of Manipur to maintain a status quo over the issue.
