Pointing out that empowering youths is a foundation for building a stronger and a responsible generation, Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip on Tuesday stressed the need of tapping the talents among the youths.
She was delivering the chief guest speech during the inaugural function of the 49th General Conference cum Sports Meet 2023 of Koren 'Koireng' Youth Organisation (KYO) Manipur at Kamu Koireng Village, Kangpokpi district.
Admitting that she entered politics as a strategy to youth empowerment, Kimneo called upon all the youths to march forward collectively towards the race of development.
Answering to a memorandum seeking redressal of grievances submitted to her as a concerned MLA of Kamu Koireng Village, she apprised the villagers to have patience as the state government under the abled leadership of CM N Biren never leave any stone unturned in taking up developmental projects.
In his keynote address, former president of KYO, R Yangsosong Koireng, contended that the Koireng community, which has a small population of only around 3,000, has been neglected and downtrodden by the state government though it has been settled in the state since time immemorial.
He stressed the youths of the Koireng community the need of focusing on education as education is the key to march towards development.
Delivering the presidential speech, president of KYO, RN Boipu Koireng, pointed out that the Koireng community has been facing political and racial discrimination since pre-independent period and lamented the government for not considering any specific policy to safeguard the Koireng community which is a minority.
The president demanded setting up a protection mechanism by the state government to save the Koireng tribe from extinction by ways of establishing a Minority Commission and adoption of bicameral legislature.
Organised with the aim to enhance, explore and educate the Koireng culture and tradition, besides exploring the talents of the youths, the six days conference also witnessed various cultural programme and sport events which was participated by Koireng brethren settling in different corners of Manipur.
A book entitled "Thuruming Taang Le La" on the folk songs and tales of the Koireng community written by (late) Jeite Thangso Koireng from Sadu Koireng was also released during the inaugural programme by the chief guest.
The programme was also attended by president of AMUCO Ph Nando Luwang and village chiefs of Koireng community as dignitaries.
