An 18-year-old youth died after reportedly consuming poison with his alleged lover, a 29-year-old married woman, near a defunct Oil Pump at Phumlou under Lamshang Police Station in Imphal West, Manipur on Sunday around 7.30 pm.
The youth passed away on Wednesday around 3 am while the woman is undergoing treatment at RIMS.
As per sources, the deceased has been identified as Abujam Anilkamand,18, son of A Joy of Mayanglangjing Taning, while the woman has been identified as Ayekpam Sangita, 29, daughter of Dinababu of Jiribam Babukhal, currently residing at a rental house in Porompat, Imphal East after divorcing her husband.
As per his family, Anilkamand, who is a farmer, left his home after receiving a call from Sangita on Sunday around 7 pm.
His family received a call around 8 pm, which informed them that Anilkamand was going through an emergency. His family rushed to his location and found that Anilkamand had consumed poison.
Before passing away, Anilkamand reportedly disclosed to his family that he received a call from Sangita asking him to meet her. He said that Sangita came with a couple in an alto car and handed him a bottle, claiming that it contained poison and asked him to drink it.
Thinking it to be a joke, Anilkamand consumed the contents of the poison. Reportedly, Sangita then snatched the bottle from him and also consumed the poison, as per his family.
The couple along with some women who reportedly stayed with Sangita in rent, admitted them to RIMS hospital. Their phones were switched off afterwards, according to the deceased’s family.
Earlier on the same day, Sangita along with her friends came to a paddy field where Anilkamand was working, they said.
Subsequently, Patsoi police took the statement of both the victims, and also recovered a bottle of herbicide.
A magistrate has also initiated inquest proceedings and conducted a postmortem examination which was video recorded at RIMS mortuary. The body has been handed over to the family for the last rites.
