President of the Good Governance Party Yambem Laba on Monday urged the Kuki community to immediately release the two Meetei youths reportedly under their custody.
Addressing the media at his residence, Laba cautioned that both the state and central governments will bear full responsibility if any harm befalls the youths.
The two youths, along with a third companion, were reportedly abducted by the Kuki community after losing their way while traveling to attend the SSC GD recruitment.
Laba further called on the Assam Rifles to clarify details regarding the rescued youth among the three who were abducted.
In response to reports that the Kuki community is demanding the release of Mark T Haokip, currently in the custody of the NIA, in exchange for the two youths, Laba emphasised that Haokip’s release is not under the control of the state government.
Laba also recalled instances during the ongoing crisis where many Kuki individuals were saved by the Meetei community in the valley, urging for similar goodwill to be shown.
He extended an invitation for dialogue between Kuki leaders and representatives at any location in India.
