Y20 Consultancy held in Manipur

The Y20 consultancy on “Shared Future: Youth in Democracy and Governance”, was held on May 4, 2023 at Imphal.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs and education Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Dean, School of Engineering and chairman Y20 organising committee, Prof RK Hemakumar Singh and Prof N Lokendra Singh, vice chancellor, Manipur University attended the programme as chief guest, guest of honour and president.

In a press release signed by Prof. W. Chandbabu Singh, Registrar, Manipur University and covenor of Y20 consultancy said that RK Ranjan spoke during the programme saying that Y20 is a platform to create space for young people to freely express their voices and debate with their peers and policy makers.

N. Lokendra expressed that the consultancy would provide a platform to the participants to learn from each other and since the future lies on the shoulders of the youth, it is the responsibility of the people to provide the youth with the necessary tools and resources, he added.

Prof. RK Hemakumar said that there is need to discuss and find solutions for the challenges people are facing across the globe.

The release said that four sessions was held during the Y20 consultancy programme, speakers from across the globe attended the programme.

The release further said that RK Nimai, IAS (Retd.), Prof. Ksh Rajendra Singh, Head of Department, Sociology, Manipur University and Ram Muivah, Member of Manipur Legislative Assembly and former secretary of North Eastern Council attended the programme as moderators.

Prof. W. Chandbabu Singh in the concluding remark of the consultancy highlighted the potential of youth power in the country. He said the country has an abundance of youth energy with more than 450 million youth population and if these energies are productively utilised, the country can be transformed in terms of agricultural development, industrial development and service sectors.

Youth participation in governance and politics basically means building future leaders, community engagement and decision making process, he added.
