World Sight Day: Free eye screening, surgery camp held in Tamenglong

As many as 38 with Cataract, Corneal Scar and Pterygium cases were operated during the camp.

The District Health Society Tamenglong in collaboration with 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 22 Sector/ IGAR (EAST) organised a free cataract screening and surgery camp at District Hospital Duigailong, Tamenglong district under the theme ‘Love your Eyes’ on Thursday.

The eye surgery camp was held to commemorate 22 World Sight Day and sponsored by the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB and VI) where professional and experienced led by JNIMS assistant professor Dr Anthony Kamson, Vikram Singh Khoisnam, SPO, NPCB along with Dr N Linthoigambi and Dr N Reagan attended. 

Of the 230 eyes screened, as many as 38 with Cataract, Corneal Scar and Pterygium cases were operated.

Speaking to the Imphal Free Press, chief medical officer Tamenglong Dr G Majachunglu expressed her sincere gratitude to state government, state health society and nodal officer for giving the opportunity to help the old people to avail cataract screening and surgery. 

She also expressed her sincere thanks to the team of doctors who had come from far away distances to give sight to the blind people of Tamenglong along with their surgical instruments and medicines.  She then thanked the 44 Assam Rifle for extending their help in organising the free cataract screening and surgical camp.
