As a part of the World Health Day 2022 observation, the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) organised a one-day medico-legal health camp for senior citizens residing at the Old Aged Home of Ima Leimarel Women Welfare Association, Kongba Nongthombam Leikai in Imphal West, on Thursday.
Ojesh Mutum, member secretary of MASLSA said that the World Health Day has been observed since 1950 and right to health, right to live in a clean environment etc., are enshrined in the Constitution of India. The theme of World Health Day, 2022 is “Our planet our health,” he informed.
Ojesh Mutum said “Right to Health is a part and parcel of Right to Life and therefore, right to health is a fundamental right guaranteed to every citizen of India under Article 21 of the Constitution of India”.
“We owe the recognition of this right to the fact that the Supreme Court of India, through a series of judicial precedents, logically extended its interpretation of the right to life to include right to health,” he said.
MASLSA secretary also said that “it is the duty of the State to care for the health of the public at large and the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) have, rightfully and proactively, taken seven steps and provided assistance to the people in need. Today’s programme is one such initiative.”
The medico-legal health camp was attended by Sadananda Sorokhaibam, Additional Member Secretary, MASLSA; Arshad Saeed Shah, Secretary, DLSA Imphal East; Kh Dinamani Singh, Dental Surgeon; Okram Jet, Managing Director, Rural Homeopathic Mobile Clinic and Dr. Amrita Oinam, Senior Consultant, Rural Homeopathic Mobile Clinic.
As many as 35 senior citizens/old aged persons received free medication and aid in the said camp. Distribution of pamphlets and poster campaigns on free legal services were also carried out as part of the observation.
District Legal Services Authority, Tamenglong also observed World Health Day cum Yoga on Thursday at Conference Hall, ADR Building, Lamphel Court Complex. It was sponsored by MASLSA under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority. The programme was attended by judicial officers and staff.
Senior faculty, Art of Living, State Director, S Roshnikumar Sharma stated that health is a complete physical as well as mental well-being as per WHO. He emphasized that the body is an asset and one needs to maintain and introspect our body.
Both the resource persons spoke about the importance of yoga and how to stay fit physically, mentally and spiritually. They also taught the participants some basic yoga asanas and appealed for observing World Health Day everyday so that they could maintain clarity, quality and peace of mind.
