World Consumer Rights Day 2022 observed virtually in Manipur

The importance of mediation in consumer dispute cases even before filing of the complaint before the proper forum was highlighted during the observation held virtually by the District Legal Services Authority, Tamenglong.

World Consumers Rights Day 2022 with the theme ‘Fair Digital Finance’ was observed virtually in Manipur. The importance of mediation in consumer dispute cases even before filing of the complaint before the proper forum was highlighted during the observation held virtually by the District Legal Services Authority, Tamenglong in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West under the sponsorship of Manipur State Legal Services Authority under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority.

District and Session Judge, Imphal West, Aribam Guneshwar Sharma spoke about the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. He expressed the importance of mediation in consumer dispute cases even before filing of the complaint before the proper forum. Fair Digital Finance is the theme for World Consumer Rights Day 2022, he added.

Advocate, Ch Narendra spoke on why World Consumer Rights Day is observed every year. He has highlighted rights of consumers which are provided under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 viz., right to safety, right of choice, right to be informed, right to be heard, right of redressal and right of consumer awareness. A complaint under the Act may also be filed where the complainant resides or personally works for gain, he asserted.

The programme was attended by PLVs, Panel Lawyers and LACs for Tamenglong, Noney and Imphal West. Further, District Legal Services Authority, Chandel under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority observed “World Consumer Right’s Day '' as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at One Stop Centre, Chandel district.

Advocate, Jacky Lucy, spoke on Consumer Rights and Protection (CPA). She further spoke on the Rights to free choice of goods and services. Members of Widow Welfare Society, self-support groups and CNP+ participated in the said programme. The programme concluded with an interactive session with the participants.
