Woman drug peddler arrested with heroin worth Rs 72 lakh in Imphal East

A woman drug peddler was arrested by the Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), Imphal East district and heroin powder worth Rs 72 lakh seized from her possession at Yairipok Angtha Machin at around 10:20 am Tuesday.

In connection with the police activity, Chief Minister N Biren posted in social media, saying, “Manipur continues the War on Drugs crippling the drug cartels and their businesses. The State Government will never allow such nasty and dreadful activity to continue.”

Officer-in-charge of NAB, Imphal East, Kh Devkumar in his office chamber of Porompat, told media persons that acting on reliable information, a team led by him along with women constable and one executive magistrate of Imphal East, Ningthoujam Ratankumar and volunteers of Young Athletic Development Association (YADA) conducted risking and checking in and around Yairipok Angtha near public toilet.

During the police activity, one Sana, 37, wife of Md Ayub Khan of Yairipok Tulihal Toubokpi was detained. On examination, one backpack was detected containing 30 soap cases of heroin powder weighing 360 grams without containers. The seized drugs could be around Rs 72 lakh in international market value, he added.

Accordingly, Sana was arrested in the presence of witnesses from the spot by observing formalities. The arrested person along with the seized drugs has been handed over to Andro Police Station for further legal action, said Devkumar.
