The World Meetei Council (WMC) on Tuesday expressed discontentment over the alleged failure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant an appointment for a one-on-one meeting with Chief Minister Biren Singh to discuss the prevailing situation in Manipur.
The same is an insult to the people, especially to over 60,000 displaced individuals who have been suffering in relief camps since the violence erupted on May 3, 2023, said secretary general, CEC WMC, Yambem Arun Meetei.
It pointed out that Manipur has been in complete disarray since the migrant Chin-Kuki perpetrators allegedly attacked the Meetei on May 3 in Churachandpur and the adjoining areas of Bishnupur district. It alleged that the immigrant community has long been looking for an opportune moment to raise their political agenda of a Zale’n-gam.
It claimed that their leaders are mostly migrants from neighbouring Myanmar like ZRO president, Thanglianpau Guite, who signed the SoO with the centre, who was a Member of Myanmar’s Parliament and had sneaked into Manipur and became a Scheduled Tribe Citizen of India the next day.
It expressed concern that the violence has unsettled the social equilibrium of Manipur, victimizing every section of the society. It fervently urged the Prime Minister of India to put an end to the ongoing crisis so as to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
