The World Meetei Council (WMC) on Thursday denounced the upcoming meeting to be held on Saturday at City Convention Centre Imphal, and expected to be attended by Minister Govindas Konthoujam.
A joint release issued by president WMC Assam Unit, Thaunawjam Brajamohon; president WMC Delhi Unit, N Manichandra; general secretary WMC Manipur Unit, Kh Muhen; president WMC Nagaland Unit, S Sanjoy Khaba; president WMC Tripura Unit, Ngangom Naobi and general secretary WMC Myanmar Federal Unit, Mukhom SiThuSoe Angomcha decried the scheduled meeting on Saturday, asserting that the said meeting has no connection whatsoever with the council.
It expressed discontentment over the Manipur government for allegedly being a puppet under the will of the Centre and remaining oblivious to the present situation in the state.
Instead of striving for the betterment of the people, the state government is fixated on mindless devotion to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has no regard for the state, it accused.
It lamented over the alleged attempts to disrupt the council’s initiative, citing the recent infamous incident at Manipur Press Club. It maintained that WMC, under the leadership of its Chairman, Heigrujam Nabashyam, has been relentlessly making all out efforts to ensure Constitutional protection of the Meeties before the 2026 delimitation.
It further condemned the attempt by vested interests to impede WMC’s efforts and maligning the Council’s image, trying to divide it into factions, with alleged support from two Ministers of State.
It urged the state government to instead focus on resolving the prevailing crisis, while assuring possible help from the council towards the same. It also appealed to the two Ministers concerned to consider the interests of the public and withdraw participation from said activities.
