The World Meetei Council (WMC) on Saturday expressed disapproval over the move allegedly taken by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh to approach Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma for resolving the prevailing violence in the state.

WMC chairman Heigrujam Nabashyam, in a release, alleged that the move is maligning the pride and dignity of the people of Manipur, who are victims of the conflict perpetrated by the Kukis.

It mentioned that the news about the CM’s approach has been widely circulated on various local and national media, with even reports indicating that the Mizoram CM is likely to visit Manipur.

WMC is of the understanding that CM N Biren approached the Mizoram CM, considering him as a father figure to the Kukis, as such the Chin-kukis might pay heed to their advice, it mooted. The same also indicates that CM biren and his cabinet have run out of ideas to control the violence, it alleged.

It condemned that the chief minister’s move is allegedly compromising the pride of the people of Manipur.

While acknowledging the response of the Mizoram CM to extend necessary assistance to resolve the violence, it asserted that the situation might be much better if a neutral leader like the Assam Chief Minister had been named to negotiate the issue.
