Women in Governance (WiNG) Thoubal chapter on Tuesday demanded the state police department to speed up in submitting chargesheets to the court in connection with crime against women in the state.

In a press meet held at WiNG Thoubal hall at Wangjing, WiNG Thoubal promoter Sorokhaibam Thoibi said that although the news of crime against women are frequent, the news of justice being served on such cases are rare. She said that Thoubal district is not free from the reach of crime against women. She mentioned that two women from the district, Ningthoujam Lanthoibi Chanu and Wahengbam Jesica are the most recent victims.

She said that Lanthoibi, 22, from Bamon Leikai Harikhagok Makhong was originally from Tentha Mathak Leikai, Thoubal district. At around 10.40 pm on March 20, Lanthoibi was allegedly shot dead by her boyfriend Khagembam Ashok from Sabungkhok Khunou, with whom she had eloped four times, Thoibi added. Khagembam Ashok was already married with another woman, with whom he had two children, she mentioned.

She further said that, when WiNG looked into the case of Lanthoibi, the charge sheet was found yet to be submitted against the accused by the police department concerned. The authorities concerned had informed the family of the victim that the submission of the charge sheet will take around three months, she continued.

Meanwhile, Pukhrihongbam ongbi Jesica, 27, wife of Pukhrihongbam Bhumeshor alias Naoba from Samaram Mamang leikai was found hanging in her kitchen in a suspicious manner, Thoibi stated. Jesica and Bhumeshor had two children, she added.

She demanded for justice for the case and alleged that the case of a mother allegedly committing suicide leaving her children behind is suspicious.

She drew attention of the state police department in bringing justice to the cases promptly, and added that WiNG strongly condemned the violence and crime against women in the state.
The event was attended by promoters of the WiNG Thoubal chapter.
