Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday said that the BJP-led government will root out drugs from the state in order to save the people. Expressing concern that over 70 per cent of the state’s population has become victims of drugs, CM Biren said, "It appears that some people are trying to destroy the society intentionally".

He was speaking during the inaugural ceremony of the first state executive meeting of state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held at Sadbhana Mandop, Kangpokpi Bazaar on Thursday after the coming of BJP-led 2.0 government.

The meeting was conducted under the leadership of national general secretary organisation, BJP, BL Santosh.

Five years of fighting against drugs under the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign has been completed, however, the recent busting of a drug manufacturing unit at Lilong shows that some people are trying to destroy Manipur intentionally, the CM said. However, the BJP-led government will not remain silent and for the government, it is a duty to save the people. Therefore, the government will take intentional steps to root out drugs from the state and save the people, Biren asserted.

The chief minister also reiterated that the eviction work at Waithou was conducted not to harm the people but to make the people believe that the state has law and no one is above the law. He said that along the stretch of national highway-2, there were many hillocks, just adjacent to the highway. However, in the last few years many hillocks have disappeared with the manipulation made by the politicians, he pointed out, adding that in order to conserve the hillocks along the national highway the government took the eviction work.

Biren said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started giving force retirement to unsuitable employees and warned that similar steps will also be taken in Manipur too.

He further said one of the most beautiful gardens will be set up at Waithou hills so that tourists passing through the national highway would know the uniqueness of Manipur.

The chief minister further said that to bring equal development in the entire 68 sub-divisions of Manipur, the present government has deputed one IAS officer including MCS for each sub-division. To assist the officials, a proper number of BJP workers has been engaged for each sub-division, he added.

The BJP-led government’s ‘War on Drugs’ campaign is also a part of the initiatives taken by the party, the party president said, adding that the society has already witnessed the severe impact from drugs. To spread awareness on drugs, a programme on ‘War on Drugs’ including moral education has already been started at school level. The awareness programme has been started in three schools, including one government higher secondary school and two private high schools, Sharda informed.

She said the same awareness on drugs needs to be given to both boy and girl students. If students are aware of the severe impact of drugs and the value of moral education from the school level, then people can easily bring a peaceful society, free from crimes, the party president stated, asserting that only BJP can save Manipur.

All the BJP elected MLAs, state BJP office bearers and workers attended the function.
