In continuation of the rally agitation in demand to enlist the Meetei community in the ST list, the locals of Singjamei and vendors on Thursday took up demonstration at the street of Singjamei Bazar in Imphal West.
The agitation was taken up under the banner of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM), Singjamei Ima Keithel, United Youth Organisation, Singjamei Wangma and Meira Paibi Lups of Singjamei Chongtham and Chirom Leikais.
“We will not retreat unless and until the Meetei community is enlisted in the ST list”, said general secretary of STDCM, K Bhogendrajit, while speaking to the media.
He said it is unfortunate that the government still remains as a silent spectator in their demand which is the only constitutional safeguard for the indigenous Meetei community.
Announcing that the STDCM will take the agitation to every nook and corner of Manipur, he appealed to the state government to consider their demand at the earliest.
It is worth mentioning that the STDCM has met as many as 34 ministers and MLAs of the state in demand for ST status and while all of them gave assurance to support the movement, CLP leader O Ibobi assured to give support only after observing the ground situations.
