The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will never have post poll alliance with any political party in the event of the party forming a new government in the state, state party spokesperson L Bashanta Sharma said in Imphal on Friday. He also said that AFSPA is not an issue in the present state scenario.

Sharma was addressing the media at the state BJP office located at Nityaipat Chuthek in Imphal on Friday. He said as the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election is getting closer, many coalition parties of the 2017 election started blaming the BJP that it failed to fulfill the principle of a coalition partner in its attempt to get political mileage.

For the ensuing election, the BJP has fielded candidates in all the entire 60 assembly constituencies and the party is targeting poll victory in over 40 seats and will form a BJP government, he said, adding that the party will never have post poll alliance with the National People’s Party (NPP); the Naga People’s Front (NPF) or the Janata Dal-United (JD-U), he added.

He also said the BJP will never have any post poll alliance with those political parties which are having alliance in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) or be a part of the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA).

Mentioning that one of the NPF candidates of Manipur had expressed that a new coalition government will return with the support of the NPF, he said if any political party wanted to have alliance with the BJP then they can have "outer political alliance", he said.

Sharma also said that the state BJP in its election manifesto included only what is necessary in order to bring welfare and development in Manipur. "In the present scenario, AFSPA is not an issue," he said.

When asked whether the BJP will repeal AFSPA if people voted in favour of the party, he said, “If people needed then we are ready to repeal AFSPA”.

During the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the issue of AFSPA was not mentioned but both the leaders assured that the BJP government will try to solve the insurgency issue in Manipur, Sharma pointed out.

However, it may be mentioned that Amit Shah declined to comment on the issue of AFSPA when mediapersons asked about it during his recent visit to the state.
