Manipur Education Minister Th Basantakumar Singh on Thursday said that the government will look into the order of the Manipur High Court on recruiting those deserving meritorious sportspersons based on an advertisement of 2010.
Responding to a starred question by Congress MLA K Meghachandra with regards to recruitment of deserving meritorious sportspersons in 2018 during the ongoing third session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, the minister said that selection of meritorious sportspersons was done according to guidelines of Rights of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Amendment Act, 2017 and hence, eligible candidates selected in 2018.
However, the government will examine the order of the Manipur High Court with regards to recruitment of those deserving meritorious sportspersons, the minister said.
MLA Meghachandra said that in 2010, the state government published an advertisement for recruitment for deserving meritorious sportspersons in 61 posts but it was not carried out. After that, the High Court of Manipur also ordered twice for recruitment in connection with the advertisement. Then, in 2018, the state government selected deserving meritorious sportspeople but that was according to certain guidelines, the Congress MLA said.
However, those sportspersons who studied only up to Class 10 but were not meritorious in sports were unable to enter for the posts, he said.
Responding to it, the education minister said that in 2018, three meritorious sportspersons, who were eligible with criteria given under the act, were selected. The state follows guidelines of the act of 2017 but the HC had ordered that contempt of court may come in. So, the government will examine the HC order in the interest of deserving meritorious sportspersons, the minister said.
He also added that the government has provisions for employment of deserving meritorious sportspersons in class III and IV posts, not exceeding 5 per cent of the total vacancies as per department notification issued on April 10, 2010.
