The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) on Thursday questioned why a teacher hired on a contract basis was made the principal of Dental College, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).
The principal in question is one Dr Nidarsh D Hegde (Oral Maxillofacial and Surgery) hired on contract by JNIMS Society, DESAM stated in a release issued by its secretary Health and Environment Romesh Oinamcha.
DESAM further stated that Dr Nidarsh D Hegde was also found to be working as registrar of Manipur Dental Council, while stating that giving such posts to a person hired on contract was unfortunate. DESAM questioned why others who are qualified for the posts have been left ignored only to appoint someone who is hired on a contract basis.
DESAM has found that Dr Nidarsh is mostly absent from his quarter and rarely comes to the College, it alleged. His absence has caused many inconveniences, DESAM claimed.
DESAM appealed to the JNIMS authority and Manipur Directorate of Health and Family Welfare to hire a qualified person from among the regular posts and also demanded that an employee working as regular must be appointed as the registrar of Manipur State Dental Council.
