Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) co-opted member Achoibam Deben on Saturday said that farmers in the state have been facing the issue of fertilisers unavailability at the time of need. What is the use of fertilisers if they are not utilised in the right time,” Deben asked.
He was speaking while distributing monthly pension to the elderly persons of over 60 years and widows of Challou, Lamlai, Napetpalli and Pungdongbam Uyungmakhong area of Lamlai assembly constituency at Lamlai, Imphal East on Saturday.
Deben has been distributing the monthly pension to the elderly persons and widows in memory of his late mother Achoibam ongbi Ibemhal Devi on 11th of every month from his own expenses.
He said the fertilisers are needed to be utilised in time, if not they are useless in agriculture. Making the fertilisers available abundantly in out of time is meaningless.
Most of the farmers are tenants and due to the reason most of them have failed to get the fertilisers provided by the government as they cannot produce their land documents of the paddy fields where they are farming, he added.
He appealed to the authorities concerned to provide fertilisers to every farmer without keeping any criteria and end the issue of shortage of fertilisers faced by the farmers every year.
