The state government is taking new steps towards development and people should help create a new Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said while laying the foundation stone for the construction of Kakching Khunou Municipal Council office. He also said that change is necessary and a society cannot follow one trend for thousands of years.

The foundation stone for the construction of a new office for Kakching Khunou Municipal Council in Kakching district was laid at Udhup Ching on Tuesday. After the foundation stone was laid, Biren attended a one-day political conference at the community hall of Kakching Khunou where he appealed to the public to extend their support to his party, BJP.

The event was organised by the Kakching Khunou Municipal Council and BJP Sugunu Mandal.

Urging the people to help create a new Manipur, Biren said: "People should evolve and grow. Without growth, there will be no development... And change is necessary… A society cannot simply follow one trend for thousands of years".

A farmer cannot stick to farming for his entire life and must look for other means of sustenance, he said.

"The state government is now taking new steps towards development and better changes. It is the sincere appeal of the state government to the public to extend its support and cooperation," he added.

Biren also said that several initiatives have been taken by the state government to help the poor children receive quality education.

"If the government can provide funding to children hailing from poor families so that they may receive education, it would also help the family in saving money,” he said.

The government is focusing in these areas and the public is urged to extend support, he added.

Considering that there are many poor families who could not afford medical expenses in times of illness, the Prime Minister of India has introduced Ayushman Bharat which provides health insurance of five lakhs for free, he said.

Under the aegis of the Prime Minister, the government has also introduced schemes for construction of houses for the homeless and to provide drinking water as well, he added.

Biren also said that his government has introduced Chief Minister gi Hakshel gi Tengbang which provides health insurance of Rs 2 lakh to the beneficiaries.

Under the scheme, beneficiaries are given a monthly salary of Rs 1,500, he mentioned.

The chief minister also said the loans which do not take interest in return have been announced by the state government for the differently abled persons. Those who wish to avail the benefits may visit the Manipur State Co-operative bank, he added. They can even submit the papers directly to him, and he will send the bank officials to deliver the loans directly at their homes, he added.

Mentioning that the people of Kamjong expressed their happiness to get drinking water from tapes, he said the engineers who worked on providing the drinking water to the people of Kamjong will be given a special reward on Statehood Day.

The Covid pandemic has been unprecedented, he said and urged the people to ponder the uncertainties posed by the pandemic and become more caring towards their friends, families and communities. He also urged the people to be more kind to animals and other living things.

At the occasion, Kakching Khunou Educational Forum including other civil bodies submitted a memorandum to the CM for the development of Sugnu assembly constituency
