As a part of the Manipur government's War on Drugs, Thoubal district police arrested three persons and seized brown sugar worth around Rs 2.58 crore in the international market, SP Thoubal Jogeshchandra Haobijam said on Saturday.
SP Thoubal Jogeshchandra Haobijam told reporters that at around 6.30 pm on Friday, following a tip-off about banned items being transported from Imphal to Hayel Loubuk area, a combined team of Thoubal commando along with NAB Police station conducted search at Hayel Loubuk area.
The SP, who supervised the combined team led by additional SP (Ops) Thoubal O Wangkhomba, said that during the search, the police team arrested one Md Sahir Khan, 35, son of Late Md Abdul Rashid of Khurai Khomidok and detained one DI vehicle bearing registration number AS21C6463 at Hayel Loubuk.
Five paddy sacks with 50 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar were found during the search in the vehicle. The brown sugar weigh around 644 grams and is worth around Rs 2.58 crore in the international market, he added.
Further, as a follow up action by the police team, the combined team of Thoubal commando and NAB Police arrested two other persons namely Md Abdul Kadir ,37, son of Md Abdul Nasid of Khabeisoi Mayai Leikai and one Md Nawaz Khan ,27, son of Md Islauddin of Lilong Dam from Canchipur Pal Ahanbi area at around 9 pm the same day, he said.
The arrested persons and seized items were handed over to Thoubal Police station for further necessary action, he added.
