As a part of ‘War on Drugs 2.0’, Thoubal district police seized 34 soap cases containing brown sugar on Monday, SP Thoubal Jogeshchandra Haobijam said.
At his office on Tuesday, SP Jogeshchandra said that on Monday at around 8 pm, a combined team of Thoubal commando and a column of 16 AR led by additional SP (Ops) Thoubal O Wangkhomba and assisted by deputy SP Commando, Thoubal Laishram Santosh, under the supervision of SP himself, conducted frisking and checking at the Yairipok Lamkhai Police check-post on NH 39 highway.

One Eeco Van, silver in colour coming from Moreh side, was detained during frisking and checking, he said.
The driver of the van identified himself as Gimmuanlian Zou, 23, son of Nengkhanthang Zou of Lhangnem Village, Churachandpur. Due to his suspicious nature, the vehicle was checked and some items were found concealed in the van, SP added.
The police team, after observing necessary formalities, searched the vehicle further and detected 34 soap cases containing brown sugar.

The brown sugar weighed approximately 441 grams in total, excluding the weight of the plastic soap cases, he said.
The apprehended person along with the seized items and the vehicle were handed over to Thoubal Police station and a case has been registered for further necessary action, he added.
Additional SP (ops) Thoubal O Wangkhomba; DySP( CDO) Thoubal L Santosh; Major 16 AR A Arun; and OC Commando Thoubal N Sadananda also attended the press briefing.
