Villagers of Chungkhopi village in Churachandpur district have disowned their village chief, claiming that he made a forgery deed and proclaimed himself as chief of K Munhoi against the wish of the residents who had made it clear in 2003 that they will be led in rotation by chairmanship and not chieftainship.

An elder of Chungkhopi village, Thenthang Khongsai, informed that between 2003 and 2004, under the aegis of Khongsai Inpi Churachandpur, many individuals had set up Khongsai Rehabilitation Center with each individual allotted a plot based on their contribution.

He lamented that the self-style chief, Songkhohen khongsai, after getting a forgery deed, sold the plot allotted to the residents leading to the case being heard by the Teising Area Chiefs' Association and the Kuki Chief Association who opined that the plot belongs to the residents who donated and brought the 19 acres of land around 2003.

Thenthang Khongsai maintained that they have the rights to the land as the court ruled it in their favour when the said chief took the case to court.

Thenthang Khongsai also produced documents of the original deed, the receipt of the donors issued by Khongsai Inpi Churachandpur, the court order, map of the society indicating important places like church, playground, cemetery, community hall, etc. He also said that as land belongs to the society, the village was looked after by three chairmen till 2016 when the self-styled chief took over.
