Uttra Shanglen, Royal Palace and Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) on Monday took three resolutions regarding the recent development in view of the Union Government’s recent move to include Meitei Kokyet as a part of the dress code for the Marshals of the Indian Parliament.
The resolutions include demands to the authorities concerned to write to the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry to find out the type of ‘Kokyet’ to be donned by Parliament marshals and whether it breaches the cultural codes of the state, stated a release.
It also reiterated Sana Konung’s firm commitment to protect and preserve the sanctity of the Meitei Kokyet at all times. It mentioned that there are various Salai Kokyet styles including Salai Kokyet Mapum, Macha, Oida Nambi, Matok Pandabi and Namthangkhulak.
It added that the salai kokyet macha is used by the royal palace officials and also by Manipuri Legislative Assembly Marshals at present. It said that there would be no problem if the same Kokyet style was to be used by the Indian Parliament marshals.
Sana Konung, while expressing happiness over the Union Government’s move, asserted that it will not tolerate if the sanctity of the Meitei Kokyet were to be compromised in any way, the release mentioned.
