The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) Women’s Wing on Monday appealed to all to purchase items made in relief camps and strengthen the cordial brother-sister bond during this year’s Ningol Chakouba.
“Use the items made in relief camps and gift them to loved ones,” the committee stated.
Speaking to media COCOMI office, Imphal, COCOMI Women’s Wing coordinator Yumnam Leilileima stated that the move would greatly aid in promoting local products and the economy.
“The celebration was halted due to the conflict last year. So celebrate this year’s festival in a low-key fashion while promoting the local products made in relief camps,” she said.
Meanwhile, assistant co-ordinator Wahengbam Luwangleima stated that even though the celebration was halted last year, the same should not be repeated this year as the festival is intrinsic to culture and tradition of this land.
“All women folk eagerly wait for this annual festival to strengthen their relations with their kin. We appealed to all to celebrate the festival by using products made at relief camps,” she added.
