The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has announced its plan to initiate legal action against some retired officers of central forces for allegedly attempting to manipulate the historical narrative of Manipur.
This decision was revealed during the Langbal’s Heikha-Leithaba ceremony, held at Kekrupat in Imphal, where the UCM paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the state.
Speaking during the event, UCM president YK Dhiren condemned the officers’ alleged false portrayal of Manipur’s history in books and other mediums.
Citing Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s assertion that illegal immigration and narco-terrorism are the driving factors behind the unrest in Manipur, Dhiren emphasised the need for immediate government interventions.
He announced UCM’s plans to exert pressure on the government to expedite several key measures.
Among these measures are the NRC, abrogation of the SoO and the acceleration of border fencing to prevent further infiltration, he informed.
Dhiren also highlighted the unique position of the Meitei community, which he said has borne the brunt of fighting against narco-terrorism while other indigenous communities have remained less involved.
He stressed the need for all indigenous groups in Manipur to unite in confronting the threat posed by narco-terrorists and illegal immigrants.
“The threat from narco-terrorism is not just to one community, but to the very fabric of Manipur’s society,” Dhiren said, warning that the consequences will be felt across all communities.
He announced that UCM will be organising consultative meetings with community leaders to discuss the broader implications of the narco-terrorist threat and strategise on collective action.
Reiterating UCM’s ongoing efforts to preserve the territorial and emotional integrity of Manipur, Dhiren called for unity among all indigenous people to restore peace and safeguard the future of Manipur.
