Union Home Minister Amit Shah to lay foundation stones of new medical college in Churachandpur during Manipur visit

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set for a two-day visit to Manipur and Assam on December 26-27.

The Union minister is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati on December 26 and Imphal on December 27, according to the Home Ministry on Thursday.

During his visit to Manipur, Shah, along with Chief Minister N Biren Singh, will lay the foundation stones of the medical college to be constructed in Churachandpur, the building of Indian Institute of Technology at Muongkhong, a state government guest house, the state police headquarters and the integrated command and control centre in Imphal.

In Assam too, the Union home minister will lay the foundation stone of a new medical college in Guwahati and nine law colleges across the state. He will be accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Shah will also lay the foundation stone for the development of the Batadrava Than as a cultural and tourist destination.

The Batadrava Than is a Vaishnavite monastery in Nagaon district of Assam. It was built in the 15th-16th century by an Assamese scholar and socio-religious reformer, Srimanta Sankardeva.

Shah will also give out financial grants to 8,000 'namghars' or Vaishnavite monasteries, according to reports.

Meanwhile, ahead of the visit of the home minister to the two states in Northeast India, security has been beefed up.
