An ‘Ultra Poor Graduation Ceremony’ for as many as 384 individuals from Imphal West was held on Wednesday at Amity Hall of Adimjati in Imphal under the initiative of World Vision India.
The Ultra Poor Graduation (UPG) model aims to empower and enhance ultra-poorest households in respect to improved food security, increase income and assets, programme manager of World Vision India, Imphal West Asosii Loli said in his keynote address.
This approach involves 18 months of intensive and rigorous support and monitoring to graduate the beneficiaries from ultra-poor to sustainable livelihood, he said.
Under this approach each household will be monitored, supported and measured periodically by a dedicated UPG Field Facilitators at the community level, he said, adding that based on the feedback, every beneficiary will be individually counselled, encouraged and supported for further activity.
This process involves collecting of specific indicators and measuring them to show whether the beneficiary has graduated or not from his or her socio economic status in the poverty ladder, the programme manager informed.
In addition to technical criteria, aspects such as gender, disability and representation of all ethnic and religious groups were also considered while implementing the programme, he added.
The participants also narrated their success stories after being facilitated by the Ultra Poor Graduate programme.
The function was also attended by Adhyaksha of Imphal West ZP RK Taruni; Associate Director of Northeast Zone of World Vision India Marseibor Lyngdoh and other Zilla Parishads of Imphal West among others.
