As Christmas is just around the corner, hectic preparations are underway in Ukhrul township and villages as they gear up for the final roundup in the winter chill with merry making and bonhomie.

Ukhrul township came alive yet again with the onset of the Christmas season as the bustling commercial shops make ways for massive arrangements for festive shopping.

Speaking to the Imphal Free Press, one Asungboi Shimray said like in the previous year, the already congested town road makes no difference even this time around with all sorts of vehicles parked on both sides.

With the arrival of the holiday season, the town thoroughfare is inundated with a sea of people, especially the villagers who came for Christmas shopping after toiling yearlong in agriculture activities. It is quite a sight to see and a source of awe as in a few days' time the bustling town will soon turn quiet as people return to their homes, Shimray pointed out.

“Christmas is in the air and I can hardly wait to be with my family, especially my friends and grandmother who dearly await my homecoming. Let us make this year’s celebration a meaningful one by reflecting and acting on what Christmas is truly meant for by way of extending a helping hand, be it in small way, so that we all could be a source of true joy and smile for the old, poor and orphan and not a moment of sadness for them,” Shimray added.

Like Shimray, many others from the districts want to make this forthcoming Christmas a special one in the lives of the people so that peace reign and prosperity is ushered in.

Churches and localities in the township and villages are colourfully decorated with each showcasing their unique signature in their bid to make it lively and in sync with the mood of the festivity, thanks to the youth as they tirelessly continue to light up the streets while young and old alike eagerly await the much revered Christmas celebration.

Villages under Kamjong district are not less different as they decorated their homes, churches and surroundings, colourfully joining the rest of the world in celebrating the much revered celebration.
