With the sole intent to beautify and make Ukhrul town free from waste menace, a new forum named ‘Ukhrul Beautification Forum’ was formed on Friday by local civil societies organisations and NGOs under the banner of Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL, Tangkhul Women League).
The forum was formed during a discussion on “Waste Issues in Ukhrul district headquarters” held at TSL office, located at Wino tang Ukhrul.
Briefing media persons, TSL president Thingreiphi Lungharwoshi said that the objective of forming the new forum is to make Ukhrul a beautiful town, free of waste pollution and environment conscious through active participation of the town localities.

“Series of short-term measures have been taken up to contain the trash menace in the past. However, seeing the failure, we are rooting at a long-term perspective that can sustain in managing the growing waste in the town areas,” Lungharwoshi said.
She also expressed concern over the non-supportive attitude shown by the district administration towards the prevailing poor waste management faced by the populace of the district headquarter.
The new forum had CSOs like Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong, Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long, Tangkhul Discussion Forum and NGOs such as ENFOGAL and MIKC as its members.
Meanwhile, participants in the discussion have called for active involvement of state government, concerned district MLAs, district administration in the drive against waste pollution and to make Ukhrul a beautiful place for the populace and the visitors.

The participants appeal to the locals to begin a clean campaign at home. As charity begins at home, a sense of keeping our surroundings neat and clean must also be instilled in the minds of every household so that the work ahead will be more successful.”
Speaking at the sideline of the programme, Yoyung Shaiza, president of ENFOGAL said that they have initiated “door to door waste collection” in and around Ukhrul town.
Established in 2019, around 130 to 150 households in Ukhrul localities subscribed to its door-to-door waste collection services.
